Xmas song book
My hometown newspaper, the Guelph Mercury in Guelph, Ontario, used to publish a Christmas carol lyric booklet every year as the Xmas season approached. That was in the days when it was a print newspaper. The print newspaper closed a couple years ago. I still have this one, carefully preserved, from the mid-1970s (I think). It was printed on cheap newsprint just like the newspaper itself, and decorated with appropriate Christmassy illustrations - some religious, some not - to accompany the carols and hymns. It also contains ads from sponsoring businesses. It's its own little time capsule. There is no date on it. I remember using it at my primary school's Christmas assembly. My family used it at home, too. I'm glad I still have this original copy. Like the Winter/Christmas catalogue from Sears Department Store, we always looked forward to receiving the Xmas Song insert. My mother used to have a small collection of them, but usually we held on to old copies only for a few years until we let newer ones replace them. They are one of my fond memories of childhood Christmas.
