Public drinking fountain
My entire life growing up I saw this thing downtown in my hometown, at the intersection of Quebec Street, Norfolk Street and Yarmouth Street. As a youngster I didn't think about it, but just took it for granted: this thing always there across from the Public Library. Then a few years ago when I was downtown, I deliberately walked over to it to check it out for the first time. It was a public drinking fountain. This is not its original location. It was built in 1909 and donated to the City of Guelph by the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (the I.O.D.E.), and dedicated to King Edward VII (1901 - 1910). It would be nice if it was restored to working order, but that would take money and expose it to damaging vandalism.
