The plastic-eating bush
More Japanese inventiveness. This is a plastic-dissolving bush. Good for the environment. A shrub has been genetically engineered in Japan whose leaves excrete a kind of toxic enzyme that actually dissolves plastic. It is poisonous to humans in extremely high concentrations, but dangerous concentrations of the enzyme are so high that it is not a public health risk. Now there is an experimental program going on in Tokyo that encourages people to throw their empty plastic bottles into the designated roadside bushes to see how long it takes for them to dissolve into nothingness. Scientists are predicting 14-days.
