Chindonya
From today's Japan Times print newspaper.
These are "chindonya," a traditional type of street advertising in Japan. We can still sometimes see them today. They make a lot of noise with drums, flutes, whistles and other instruments, holding advertising signs or singing out their script. They are weird and fun to see, but they are a dying profession in the digital age.
