Mr. Right is a romantic action comedy. I didn’t know there was such a thing. The film, follows a young woman, \Martha (Kendrick), who discovers that her new boyfriend, Francis (Rockwell) is a professional hitman. Rockwell has this thing where he puts on a red clown nose before he kills someone. It’s a story element that recurs and gets played on in the script, so pay attention or you’ll miss it. Another thing about Francis is that he’s reached a point in his life where he’s decided that it’s wrong to be a hitman. Instead of killing his targets he kills the people who hire him to kill others. There’s supposed to be some kind of morality there.
Martha is unlucky in love. Then she finds Rockwell, who is very sweet. He never lies about himself, but Martha assumes all this talk of killing people is a joke. When she discovers that it’s not a joke she adapts to the situation quickly because she loves him. A lot of comedy occurs in this evolution process she goes through from innocent girl to killer’s girlfriend and tough girl.
Tim Roth plays another hitman who’s hired to kill Francis, but Francis is too good at his job. I appreciated the comedy in the movie, but it was too silly for me, and I find Sam Rockwell exceedingly annoying.
