Called “The Consultant” in Japan, The Accountant is a crime thriller about a small-town Illinois certified public accountant (Christian Wolff) with high-functioning autism who actually makes his living uncooking the books of dangerous criminal organizations around the world that are experiencing internal embezzlement.
And he’s a trained hitman. His autism allows him to succeed magnificently in his work because with his he focusses intensely on narrow topics, which drives him to success that most people never experience. This is true in his accounting work as well as his other profession.
Interestingly, Mr. Right, this is the second hitman movie I’ve watched recently, both featuring actress Anna Kendrick.
A certain amount of time is given to Christian’s backstory - explaining his autism and his family and how the two contributed to his development.
I’m not greatly impressed with Ben Affleck’s interpretations of some of the ticks of a high functioning autistic, but it’s something he had to do to contribute to story continuity.
It was a good story.
