Based on the novel Don’t Point that Thing at Me by Kyril Bonfiglioli, Mortdecai is a kind of detective farce. Johnny Depp is Charlie Mortdecai, a British lord and art dealer conscripted by English police (blackmailed by a hefty unpaid tax bill) to help solve an art theft and murder. It’s completely stupid and not very funny. The film seems just to be a vehicle for Depp to act up in front of the camera and create a new character (who isn’t as good as some of his other film characters).
The most interesting character in the film is Mortdecai’s personal man servant, Jock, played by Paul Bettany.
I was disappointed that I paid money to rent this rubbish.
