Anna Karina
On Monday, December 16, 2019 I learned of the death in a Paris hospital of Danish-French film actress Anna Karina at age 79 of cancer. Anna Karina (September 22, 1940 - December 14, 2019) was a groovy Beatnik Parisian chic, most famous for the 1964 “New Wave” film “Bande à part,” or "Band of Outsiders," directed by Jean-Luc Godard. At the time, Karina was married to Godard, and some called her his muse.
I first learned of the film and saw the dance sequence featuring Karina with Sami Frey and Claude Brasseur after watching the 2013 British-French film “Le Week-End,” starring Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan, directed by Roger Michell, in which (with Jeff Goldblum) they pay homage to the famous coffee shop dance scene.
