I watched this New Zealand movie specifically because I wanted to see Matthew Lewis, who became famous playing clumsy, baby-fattish, tongue-tied Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter franchise. I’ve seen several films by other child actor Harry Potter alumni - Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and one featuring Rupert Grint - but not Lewis. So, I wanted to give it a go. He has matured into a good-looking adult man. Baby Done is a silly story, but it’s well made and I enjoyed it as a diversion.
Zoe (Matafeo) is a young woman discovers she's pregnant. But, acting in denial, she tries to do live a wild single life before the baby arrives. Her boyfriend, Tim (Lewis), has the opposite reaction to the baby news and goes into nesting mode. The two are an unmarried couple. They work together, but their occupation is implied rather than explicit. They cut and trim trees. So, I suppose they work for the City where they live.
I grew bored with Zoe’s pregnancy denial sooner rather than later. I’d had enough of it by the mid-point of the film. How could Zoe be so silly? But I had to finish it to confirm that the story turned out alright. I enjoyed it for its good-natured fun.
