Based on the book by David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas follows several story lines set in different times, from the South Pacific in the nineteenth century to the post-apocalyptic future. The idea is to follow reincarnated souls and how actions by people in one lifetime have karmic ripples through time. History repeats itself. People are connected. I didn’t appreciate it as a story device. In fact, I thought I was hallucinating. It didn’t help that I was suffering a medication overdose at the time. In fact, that could have been the problem entirely. But I don’t think so. I turned it off well before the end. I couldn’t take it anymore.
