“911, what is your emergency?” I’ve never called 911. Never needed to, which is certainly a good thing. The Call features a serial killer who abducts a teenaged girl from a mall and flees with her in the trunk of his car. He takes the girl’s cell phone but doesn’t know that she has a friend’s phone in her back pocket which she uses to make an emergency call from the trunk on the freeway. Halle Berry takes the call and the rest of the movie is about the efforts of police to locate and rescue the girl. They never do. Instead Halle Berry finds her herself and the two of them subdue the perpetrator. Typical of serial murderers the man is a well-educated, intelligent, middle class white man with a diabolic secret life. His wife doesn’t even realize. Isn’t that always the way?
This is a really, really intense movie. It convinces you that some criminals are so insane that they just have to die.
I could watch it again.
The emergency telephone number in Japan for police is 110. The Japanese fire department uses a different emergency number.
