The Return
I never thought I’d come to this,
standing at a hotel window looking at a city I could barely tolerate
when I was young and living here.
Now I return as a visitor, not a resident,
as if I’m an honored guest
rather than an old adversary.
I’ve come to repossess what I threw away
and to steal back a little of what was stolen from me.
Let’s see if you impress me now, City!
