Abandoned house
This is a disintegrating, abandoned house in my neighbourhood. As Japan's population shrinks, there are more and more abandoned buildings and homes like this throughout the country. More in the countryside than in the city, but certainly in the city as well. In extreme cases, tracking down property owners or heirs can be difficult or even impossible in extreme cases, leaving empty/abandoned structures to decay in the meantime. Governments here have little, or ill-defined authority to seize apparently abandoned houses. Yes, they can do it. But the bureaucratic obstacle course is phenomenal, letting the problem to grow unchecked. Government must have policy for many eventualities. There needs to be a policy about demolishing abandoned buildings and, possibly, returning the land to nature. Turn it into park land, or woods, or agriculture. Something.
