Constantine
starring Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale and Peter Stormare
written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello
directed by Frances Lawrence
This film has nothing to do with the 4th century Roman general and emperor famous for decriminalizing and then legalizing the Christian religion, which is what I thought at first. But it does have something to do with Christianity at least. Keanu Reeves plays an exorcist. He can see demons, and demons can see him. The demons are crossing over from their plane of existence into ours, and Constantinehas to save the world. Exciting. Tilda Swinton as the Angel Gabriel, and Peter Stormare as Lucifer easily out-perform Reeves, which isn’t very difficult, I think.
I learned at the end of the movie that this is the kind of movie I usually hate - a movie based on a comic book. The characters are based on characters from DC Comics, and the hell-on-Earth story from Vertigo Hellblazer Graphic Novels.
It’s okay, if you want to see it.
