Scream
starring Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich and David Arquette
Scream has instant campy, underground, classic teenage horror movie written all over it. It’s a joke horror film, a good movie and a scary one. It is a parody of other famous dead-teenager horror films like Halloween,
Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th.
One important thing Scream teaches us are the RULES of dead teenager horror movies:
1) Don’t have sex. Only virgins survive the slaughter of the psychopathic killer. In the classic horror movies many teenagers were killed while fooling around together;
2) Don’t drink or use drugs. Again, this is an extension of the Sin Factor of number 1. Many teenagers are killed while drunk or stoned; and,
3) Never, never, never leave a room (or the safety of a group) and say “I’ll be right back,” because you won’t. You’ll be dead, with an axe through your head!
Those are good rules to remember, making Scream worth watching.
