Borring!!!! This is an American-South African production. You can tell because the physical appearance of it is so similar to the pathetic South African alien movie District 9 (2009), also directed by Neill Blomkamp. I hated that movie. It was boring!
Set in 2154, Elysium presents a dystopian environmentally destroyed future where ruthless robots police the Earth while a minute number of privilege super-rich reside on a luxurious space habitat called Elysium. I hate the use of climate change - again. Elysium residents` ultimate perk is the use of medical devices called Med-Bays to cure any disease or injury. Very futuristic.
On Earth Max Da Costa (Matt Damon), a former car their and parolee, lives in the ruins of Los Angeles and works at a company called Armadyne Corp., which supplies Elysian weaponry as well as the robots which police the world. After being accidentally exposed to a lethal dose of radiation at work «Max has only five days to live. To survive he needs one of those miraculous Med-Bays on Elysium. But in order to get there he makes a deal with a smuggler friends. the deal is to steal financial information from Armadyne Corp. CEO John Carlyle, played by William Fichtner (from The Lone Ranger). To sustain him in his deteriorating condition Max is fitted with an artificially powered exoskeleton which gives him enough superhuman strength for exciting battles with the robot cops.
Meanwhile on Elysium the evil Secretary of Defense Delacourt (Jodie Foster) is using sleeper agent Kruger (Sharlto Copley) on Earth for all kinds of nasty dirty work. Kruger`s South African English gives the movie away more than the director Neill Blomkamp. Delacourt conspires with Armadyne CEO Carlyle to make a computer program that will override Elysium`s systems and install her as President. Max and his criminal underworld friends accidentally step right into a coup d`etat. Suddenly Max and his criminal fellows become freedom fighters pitting the little guy masses against the rich elite.
