I always try to leave Guelph with refreshed memories - and some McCrae House tea. I’m terribly sentimental that way. Of course, people, places and things change over time so there is no end of the supply of new memories to be made while old ones are either retired or edited.
I favor enduring memories (and delicious tea), so during my regular visits home I seek the best image of Old Guelph to bring away with me. Ignoring for now the mayhem of renovation and construction downtown, there are many good photographs to be taken there, often images of the same scene from different angles. I think one of the best of these is the view looking north from Northumberland Street at the Church of Our Lady’s south tower, beautifully framed by the Rectory Office on the right, and the old St. Stanislaus School on the left. It’s a naturally artistic perspective, unintentionally derived from the work of human hands.
