Now … the vacuum cleaner
On the third weekend of January my wife bought a new vacuum cleaner. We had been planning for a new vacuum cleaner, but we had also just bought a new, diminutive dishwasher for the kitchen during the year-end holidays and the purchase of another new applicance so soon was unexpected. She went to the same Bic Camera appliance store in the Odakyu Halc Department Store building near the West Exit of Shinjuku Station where we bought the dishwasher.
It all began on a Friday night when the old machine fell apart in her hands while I was at the local AM/PM Convenience Store making photocopies for two 9-year-old elementary school boys who come to our home after dinner on Friday evenings. Junko was at home cleaning up the place to get ready for the boys. When I got home she said, “Grant, look at this,” and I immediately knew that we had to spend more money.
I could say that I have a magnificently strong wife, or that she does not know her own strength. But I suspect that the real picture is one of excessive or violent tugging on the hose of the vacuum cleaner as its wheels were caught on a wall corner, or on a door frame. Grrrrrr! So, now we have a new (compact) vacuum cleaner.
